The Satilla River lies
entirely within the Coastal Plain. It is a typical 'black water' river
that has a dark (although clear) color to the water due to inputs of
humic material from the extensive flood plain swamps of cypress and
black gum bordering the river. Development and industrial-residential
pollution is very low, and there is relatively little agricultural
runoff into the river. The Satilla River flow averages 85 cubic meters
per second and its drainage area is 9,143 square kilometers.
