(1) FILE NAME: 99MMODS1.ALa DATA FILE NAME: 99MMODS1.ALb (2) YEAR and MONTH: 1999, March (3) PI: Mary Ann Moran (4) Others: Wade M. Sheldon, Jr. (5) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DATA FILE: ODIS (surface mapper) file that measured various environmental parameters every 30 seconds in the Altamaha River during a low tide survey. (6) KEYWORDS: Altamaha, ODIS, low, physical, salinity, temperature, density, depth, wind (7) RESEARCH LOCATION: Altamaha River from -3.1km to 14.0km (8) EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS and METHODS: The Oceanographic Data Interface System (ODIS) was designed to interface with an assortment of instruments that are on a research vessel (see Travis McKissack at the Skidaway Institute of Oceanography for technical details). The intake for this system is located approximately 1.5M below the water's surface. ODIS is currently connected to a Global Positioning System (GPS), a fathometer, a SeaBird Electronics thermosalinograph (SBE21), multiple Turner-Design fluorometers, and an external temperature sensor. (9) NOTES and COMMENTS: Missing and invalid values appear as NaN (not a number). Note: Station distances are calculated relative to the line of demarcation, and are synchronized to nominal 2km CTD station positions. Distance values designated NaN (not a number) indicate locations greater than 3km from the main channel of any GARLMER study river (i.e. defined as outside the confines of the river) SALINITY=PSS-78 SIGMA_T=p(s,t,O)-1000 Note: Both salinity and sigma-t are computed by the SeaBird software program. The formulas used wre obtained from "Algorithms for Computation of Fundamental Properties of Seawater" by N.P. Fofonoff and R.C. Millard, Jr.; Unesco technical papers in marine science #44, 1983. GRNDTRK and GRNDSPD are corrected for instrument orientation WINDDIR and WINDSPD are corrected for instrument alignment and boat movement (12) FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT: Wade M.
