(1) FILE NAME: 9704odsf.sla DATA FILE NAME: 9704odsf.slb (2) YEAR and MONTH: 1997, April (3) PI: Dr. Jack Blanton (4) OTHERS: Julie Amft (5) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DATA FILE: ODIS (surface mapper) file that measured various environmental parameters every 15 seconds in the Satilla River during a High Water survey on 27 April 1997. (6) KEYWORDS: Satilla, ODIS (7) RESEARCH LOCATION: The Satilla River from SL+19.8 to SL+03.3 (2-character river code + 3-digit code for upstream distance from river mouth in km). (8) EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS and METHODS: The Oceanographic Data Interface System (ODIS) was designed to interface with an assortment of instruments that are on the R/V BLUE FIN (Skidaway Institute of Oceanography). The intake for this flow-through system is located at the hull, approximately 1.5m below the water surface. ODIS is connected to a Global Positioning System (GPS), a fathometer, a Sea-Bird Electronics thermosalinograph (SBE-21), up to three Turner Designs fluorometers and an external temperature sensor. (9) NOTES AND COMMENTS: Predicted tidal height at ~SL+10: Low Water at 0621 EST, High Water at 1150 EST; Eastern Standard Time + 5 hours = GMT. Note: Station distances are calculated relative to the line of demarcation, and are synchronized to nominal 2km CTD station positions. SALINITY=PSS-78 SIGMA-T=density(s,t,0)-1000 Both salinity and sigma-t were computed by the Sea-Bird software program. The formulas used were obtained from "Algorithms for Computation of Fundamental Properties of Seawater" by N.P. Fofonoff and R.C. Millard Jr.; UNESCO Technical Papers in Marine Science #44, 1983.
