(1) FILE NAME: 9411ctdd.otb (2) YEAR and MONTH: 1994, November (3) PI: Dr. Jack Blanton (4) OTHERS: Julie Amft (5) BRIEF DESCRIPTION of DATA FILE: 1m vertical bin averages of 1 CTD cast taken aboard a UGA skiff on the Intercoastal Waterway (near the Altamaha River) on November 05, 1994. (6) KEYWORDS: Altamaha, CTD (7) RESEARCH LOCATION: Intracoastal Waterway at 31 17.66 N, 81 23.84 W. (8) EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS AND METHODS: Casts were taken with a SeaBird Electronics CTD19 (S/N 1234). After soaking at the surface for 1 minute, the switch was turned on and the CTD was lowered to the bottom by hand and then raised to the sruface. The collected data's downcast were processed using standard SeaBird software to produce the 1m vertical bin averages. (9) NOTES AND COMMENTS: Each cast has a header that contains information in the following order: cast number, date, time (EST), max water depth (M), latitude (N in degrees and minutes), and longitude (W in degrees and minutes). (10) VARIABLE DESCRIPTION: VARIABLE VARIABLE DESCRIPTION PRES/UNITS CODED -------- -------------------- ---------- ----- cast cast number N depth depth 0.1 M N temp temperature 0.01 deg C N sal salinity 0.01 PSU N sig sigma-t (density) 0.01 Kg/M^3 N (11) CALCULATIONS: Salinity=PSS-78 Sigma-t=p(s,t,O)-1000 Both salinity and sigma-t were computed by the SeaBird software program. The formulas used were obtained from "Algorithms for Computation of Fundamental Properties of Seawater" by N.P. Fofonoff and R.C. Millard Jr.; Unesco technical papers in marine science #44, 1983.
